Enjoying My Modern Cottage Life

Welcome to Modern Cottage Life. Through the years I've struggled to name my style - the style of my decorating, the style of my gardens, and in many ways my style of living. I enjoy a modern home with the touches of vintage cottage charm. I collect artwork and trinkets on trips, I have inherited keepsakes and many practical items, and I create through photography, sewing, cooking, and gardening.

 

I grew up on a farm in Northwest Missouri and learned the domestic arts from my mother and my paternal grandmother. I've spent my adult life living in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City where I've had a successful business career and raised two sons with my husband Mike.

 

Now that I'm semi-retired and a grandmother, it seems time to name my style. Modern cottage seems to blend my worlds. It blends the new with old charm and comfort. The Danish use the term "hygge", and I think that describes the home I've created. A friend inspired me to take the leap of sharing my style with the world. I hope you enjoy and find inspiration to create your own welcoming and comfortable home.

 

Throughout the seasons I will share how I decorate my home, tend my gardens, and create new things. I'll also highlight ways in which we open our home to guests for family gatherings, parties, small groups, and holidays.
