Summertime Mantle Refresh

This summer I was inspired to update the look of our mantle. For many years I've had a set of lanterns and candle holders that I've decorated in various ways. It was time for a refresh. The pressed tin piece from W.F. Norman Corp. is a centerpiece that will remain.
In my quest to find the next new thing, I found myself drawn to old things. I visited a local antique mall and fell in love with a group of vases that have classic lines and simple colors. Since I have vignettes of various travels on our living room bookcases, it seems to make sense to keep the mantle simple, with something visually calming. A set of three off-white vases came home with me that day. I washed them to get them nice and shiny then filled them with assorted soft greenery and baby's breath. I pulled out some white and gold votives and created the simple new look.

Since purchasing the vintage vases I've discovered the world of McCoy pottery. I don't know that any of my pieces are actually "McCoy", but I've now learned about the group of Ohio and West Viriginia potteries of the early 20th century. I think I'm drawn to the 1930's-40's vintage which aligns with my love of Fiestaware by the Homer Laughlin China Company. I'm happy to have brought these pieces of Americana into my home and I hope to enjoy them for many years to come.
