Fiestaware Pedestal Cake Plate in "Scarlet"

I've been collecting Fiestaware by the Homer Laughlin China Company since the early 1990's. I first fell in love the with colorful dishware when a friend was buying the vintage items at farm auctions in the 1970's and 80's. She amassed the most amazing collection because of timing! When P-86 was introduced, my mother started a collection of pastel-colored pieces, and from there she started my sister-in-law and I on to our own journeys of collecting. Each year is filled with the anticipation of the next new color, new shapes and styles, and what pieces will be discontinued from production.

In 2021-2022 the majestic Fiestaware Pedestal Cake Plate made its glorious debut. An 85th anniversary commemorative plate was released in limited numbers in the newly introduced color of "Twighlight". I am fortunate to have one of those treasures.

A couple of weeks ago I had some free time and found myself at a local thrift store. After wandering the aisles packed with musty furniture, rows of abandoned rocking chairs and grandfather clocks, I found myself in the beloved dishware department. A first glance I wasn't seeing anything that I get excited about, but in the last section under a stack of little dishes a glimmer of Fiestaware "Scarlet" caught my eye. Upon further examination I saw the beautiful chevron pattern at the bottom and knew that I'd struck gold!

Tucked away in this thrift shop shelf was a Fiestaware Pedestal Cake Plate in the color of "Scarlet". Since red is one of my favorite colors, I have many pieces of "Scarlet", I just had to look at the price. Let's just leave it that I got a really good deal.

It's a beautiful plate that I will enjoy for many years to come. I already envision birthday cakes and Christmas cookies being served on it. For now, it's in a place of honor on my kitchen island. I created a little summer vignette with coordinating "Turquoise" pieces, a candle, and artificial cherries and berries as a seasonal touch.
