Hydrangea Blooms

The language of flowers suggests that the hydrangea flowers symbolize grace, beauty, and gratitude. There are many varieties of hydrangeas in various sizes and colors of blooms. They are a dependable plant for the landscape.

On the north side of my house, I have two varieties of hydrangea planted. After four years, they are now well established and produce pink and lavender blooms. I enjoy the plant structure and fullness as the plant at the back of the flower bed that is then bordered by SunPatiens throughout the summer.

In the fall the blooms are fabulous for cutting and drying. The dry blooms are beautiful in a vase or can be worked into floral arrangements and wreaths.

If you have hydrangeas, give this a try.

  • Cut the bloom with a long stem.

  • Strip the leaves from the stem.

  • Gather a group of stems and tie together or simply arrange in a vase.

  • Hang upside down to dry or just let them dry in a vase without water.

The dried blooms are a perfect show of gratitude for a plant that has provided so much beauty throughout the summer.

Now, enjoy this natural bouquet for many weeks to come.
