Winter Storm Plant Therapy

This weekend as winter storm "Fern" was blowing into Kansas City I ran a few errands. Most people stock up on bread, milk and eggs. I took care of the food basics and then enjoyed a leisurely stroll through Lowe's. Sadly, the garden centers tables are bare. Tucked into the far corner is a collection of houseplants, succulents, and few little cacti.
As I examined the selection of houseplants I ran into another woman who was also looking at plants. She was planning a terrarium project, a project perfect for a coming snow day. We enjoyed chatting and comparing unique plants we were finding.
I ended up purchasing a trio of small plants - a curly leaf fern (appropriate for the storm), and petite ivy, and a pretty little prayer plant. The woman I chatted with recommended another, larger prayer plant that has dark leaves with pink stripes. I've only recently had a prayer plant. I got a start of one from my aunt last fall and it's been a fun plant to watch.
This morning, I covered my kitchen counter in newspaper and brought a half-frozen bag of potting soil in from the garage. I enjoyed a few minutes potting these new plants. I also took time to groom and water my other houseplants. Although brief, it did feel good to be working with soil and plants.
I'm really enjoying nurturing my indoor garden.
It's holding me over until spring.
