It’s time for apple harvest in the Kansas City area which means a trip to an orchard or picking up a jug of fresh cider at the supermarket.  Kids in the area grow up going on field trips to the Weston Red Barn Farm in Weston, Missouri or to the Louisburg Cider Mill in Louisburg, Kansas. So many fun family memories of climbing through pumpkins, watching how apple cider is made, and then noshing on a bag of fresh apple cider donuts.

A cool October morning is the perfect time for this easy to make retro recipe. I remember back in the 1980's when baking quick breads in cans (yes, recycled cans that soup or vegetables came in) was all the rage for nice little Christmas gifts. I think that's the last time I baked cranberry orange bread, and I'd forgotten just how delicious it is.

My quick bread this week sets the tone for the season. If you like streusel topping, you'll love this bread down to the last nutty crumble.
